Growing flowers good for the table

March 29th, 2008 · No Comments · Books about food

Flower Farmer coverHaving flowers on the dinner table is a good thing, but I have to admit that this post doesn’t have much to do with food. Nevertheless, I wanted to give a plug for my friend Lynn Byczynski’s new book, The Flower Farmer. This is a much-revised and updated version of a book originally published in 1997, and it’s wonderful—even if you aren’t a friend of Lynn.

The book is intended especially for people who want to grow (or already grow) cut flowers for sale. It has lots of interesting and useful information that home gardeners can use, too, including information about which flowers are best for cutting, tips for starting seeds, when to harvest flowers and where to get more information and supplies. It also has profiles of flower farmers across the U.S. An added bonus is that Lynn uses organic methods for growing flowers, so you can learn how to control pests and improve your soils without using a bunch of chemicals.

As if that weren’t enough, the new book has many color photos to complement the instructive illustrations carried over from the first edition.illustrations

The books is or will be available at bookstores nationwide and through Amazon and the like. If you’re interested and buy it from Lynn, though, she’ll get more of the price. Tell her I sent you!
