Add your 2 cents as anniversary nears

March 12th, 2008 · 2 Comments · General

In a couple of weeks, I’ll mark the first anniversary of Foodperson.com, which seems like an appropriate time for a little evaluation. Here are some things I’ve wondered about from your perspective:

  • What do you like and dislike about the page’s appearance? Type too big? too small? Too many/not enough pictures? Would you like the banner photo to change periodically?
  • What do you like and dislike about the content?
  • How about the frequency of posting? I haven’t been able to keep up with daily posting as I’d hoped. Would it be better to have consistent days I post, such as, say, every Monday, Wednesday and Friday? Do you care what time of day they post?
  • Do the ads bother you?

In short, what would you change if you could?

If you don’t want to comment publicly, you can go to the Contact page and comment there. Also, if you’re reading via the email option, you’re welcome simply to click Reply and let me have it.

Here are some things I tentatively plan to do or would like to do but haven’t figured out how:

  • Reduce the type size a hair.
  • Fix the CSS so that the spacing is right after a set of bullets. (Drives me crazy, but I realize no one else probably notices.) There are some other formating details I’d like to address but I lack the CSS experience to make them happen, it seems.
  • Add a “recent comments” section in the sidebars so that you can see at once what other people are commenting on.
  • Maybe add a “most popular posts” section in a sidebar.

Meanwhile, I’m thinking about reducing my food policy-type comments and reserve them for my posts on Ethicurean.com and try to do a few more personal or humor-type posts here. Any thoughts on that?

Let me hear from you. I can’t promise I’ll do everything you ask, but I’ll take all suggestions seriously, I promise. Thanks!

Well, Janet, personally I think you’ve got a very clean layout here that is easy to read… smaller type might be a problem, and my eyes are still fairly young! I’d say add photos when they fit… what you’ve been putting in lately has been improving in quality, and I like how they look.

As someone whose own postings go in cycles of frequency and infrequency, I’d say just let your own sense of writing guide you. Some weeks will be quiet, others not. It’s always a treat to read your blog, whenever you post.

Good ideas on the possible additions! And I tend to ignore ads anyway, so they don’t really faze me.

Above all… happy anniversary! :-) And enjoy that warm weather! (Thanks for sending a smidge our way!)

I like everything, including the type (but I could still read it a little smaller if you need to do that). It does not matter to me about the frequency-just when it suits you. I like all of the info, including the policy issues and I especially like the notices of the local food related events. Happy Anniversary and thank you! Diane
