Orange recipes at Orange Bowl time

January 3rd, 2008 · No Comments · recipes

Food categories that are not local around here certainly include citrus. However, in honor of the University of Kansas’ remarkable trip to the Orange Bowl (playing tonight), I offer up some orange tips.

My favorite: Peel and eat, or cut into wedges and eat. (The latter is good for making monkey faces for your friends.)

My most extravagant: One time, I made Oranges Glacees (Glazed Oranges) from Mastering the Art of French Cooking. They were delicious, but a pain in the neck as I did not own a proper zester (one zester example)at the time and so had to carefully peel and chop the rind. The recipe is too long to type up now (my stomach is growling), but if you’ve got the book and some time, I recommend it. Essentially, it’s peeled oranges over which you pour a sugar syrup flavored and decorated with blanched strips of orange peel and chilled. Light, delicious, and definitely zester-worthy.

Other options: Here are two links I found to lots of orange recipes, http://www.orangerecipes.org/ and http://www.sunkist.com/recipes/.

Even if the Jayhawks lose, you won’t regret eating oranges.
