I shouldn’t even be writing, but I’ve got to sit down, or my back will torture me.
Did the last cookie-baking yesterday, in concert with my daughter. (Isn’t she cute?) Made the Nutmeg Logs I’d been wanting to make but not getting done.
Actually, she did almost everything, clever girl, while I pulled ingredients out of various storage places. She’s a junior in college and is quite a good baker in her own right. Still, this exercise gave us something to do yesterday afternoon after a basketball game while she waited for the traffic and roads to clear in the near-blizzard we had. (Got about 5 inches of snow, and it blew like crazy.)
These are the finished Nutmeg Logs.
Today, made and delivered Cranberry Bread from the Silver Palate Cookbook. I just pulled the marvelously fragrant Moravian Coffee Cake (from Beard on Bread; no time to type the recipe!) from the oven. They’re so gorgeous, I just had to snap a quick pic:
Anyway, this bread means the baking is done, not counting the turkey, dressing and all that stuff…
There are still a few details to consider, like gifts to wrap, but I’ve already rationalized not vacuuming in advance of the family’s arrival. I’ll try to post tomorrow, but if I don’t, have a merry Christmas, all you who observe it.

Looks great, Janet! Don’t suppose you’d share your recipe for nutmeg logs? (Hint hint!) :-)

Jennifer, I think you must be stressed! It’s at the link just above the photo, you silly. :) They’re SO good!

Oh good grief, I am definitely not tuned in. Thanks for pointing it out, Janet… I will have to give them a try… after this week and a half at the Inn is over! :-)

My family makes nutmeg logs too! Every year they are the tastiest tradition
