Next-to-last call to speak up for better food policy

July 18th, 2007 · No Comments · Environment, Farm Bill, General

Do you want to know what country your food is coming from? Would you like to see the feds put more money in organics research and rural development and less into the pockets of agribusinesses?

If so, it really, really is time to let your elected reps know—especially if they are on the Agriculture Committee. Here is one thing you can do to right now:

Go to the Center for Food Safety’s action page, and take a moment to sign the center’s well-crafted letter in support of country of original labeling (COOL), organics and conservation.

If you want more information about why the status quo is a bad idea, you might also be interested in these articles from markedly different sources:

  • Food & Water Watch explains why a watered-down COOL plan is a bad idea.
  • The Grocery Marketing Association and assorted other big business organizations, such as the U. S. Chamber of Commerce and the National Assn. of Manufacturers speaks out in favor of a farm bill that’s better for rural America and well as for farm exports. Thanks to Ethicurean.com for noticing that press release.
