Food provides a vehicle through which we can travel back in time. Thoughts of memorable tastes, such as my first fresh-squeezed orange juice, take us to the place we tasted them. But the unexpected bite of certain flavors takes us back, too. Black walnuts transport me to my grandmother’s kitchen. Will today’s children have memories of distinctive food, or just one long run of the salty, sweet, processed kind?
